Elevating himself into elite territory joining Gordon Coventry, Doug Wade, Jason Dunstall, Tony Lockett, Gary Ablett Snr, he becomes just the sixth player and first Indigenous Australian in VFL/AFL history to join the illustrious 1000 Club. In an atmosphere at the SCG perhaps never seen, Buddy Franklin kicked four telling goals against the Cats and while they were all classic Buddy… there was one goal they all came to see. Leading out, taking the mark on his chest, Buddy slotted his 1000th goal amid the raucous cauldron and we witnessed a euphoria befitting of the achievement. It couldn’t have been scripted better – it encapsulated everything about our great game and honoured one of the greatest to ever play it.
